By 2011, the first prototypes of the BARD 6.5 MW wind turbine – a further development of the existing BARD 5.0 series design – had been installed. These began operating in 2012.
In 2017, the wind turbines were refurbished to 5.0 MW models and continued to be used as a test site.
The Rysumer Nacken site is not only a fully operational wind farm with excellent wind quality, which is not affected by neighbouring wind farms, but is also used for important training and equipment testing and thus plays a key role in OBE’s operations and maintenance strategy. At the same time, the prototype plants are used to validate new components.
From 2016 onwards, OBE introduced the practice of developing a detailed plan and training the teams before the start of an offshore campaign. This works best under ‘realistic conditions’.
Rysumer Nacken also offers the possibility of using a measurement mast on site.
The wind measurement mast at the Rysumer Nacken wind farm near Emden, standing at a height of 198.5 metres, was for a long time the tallest meteorological wind measurement mast in a German wind farm.
