With the change of ownership finalised today, Ocean Breeze Energy (OBE) is beginning to implement the continued operation of Germany’s first offshore wind farm, alpha ventus, to maximise the potential of this pioneering project. The management of OBE now also forms the management of Deutsche Offshore-Testfeld und Infrastruktur GmbH & Co. KG (DOTI).

EWE, RWE and Vattenfall are selling their shares in the alpha ventus offshore wind farm to Ocean Breeze Energy. The change of ownership opens the prospect of Germany’s first offshore wind farm, situated around 45 kilometres north of Borkum, continuing to operate beyond its originally planned lifespan. Commissioned in 2010, the wind farm pioneered German offshore wind energy. As a demonstration and testing platform, the joint project provided important insights into technologies as well as operational and maintenance concepts.

Through a renewable electricity buyer consortium, Ocean Breeze Energy GmbH & Co. KG GmbH has executed virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs) with Cargill and Mars until 2030

RWE Supply & Trading and Ocean Breeze Energy, owner and operator of the offshore wind farm. BARD Offshore 1, have entered into a long-term green power purchase agreement.

As of May 9, 2018, Ocean Breeze Energy (OBE) deployed a new walk to work support vessel, the „Acta Auriga“, in the BARD Offshore 1 wind farm.

Total wind energy output in 2017 reached 1.5 terawatt hours representing the demand of 430,000 average households.

This represents an increase of 13% year-on-year.
